Fuel is cheap here, about a third of what it costs in Europe, and collector cars are not driven to and from work every day, so fuel economy is not a big consideration. If you grew up in the sixties or seventies, you likely owned or knew someone who had a muscle car, and it would be pretty difficult to recreate this experience in a modern car, except for the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

You have likely heard or seen radio, television or billboard advertisements for companies that buy junk cars. When you hear this, you may find yourself wondering why anyone would buy a junk car and what they do with those cars. Here are three different things that companies that buy junkers do with those old cars.

Some companies buy old junk cars simply to rebuild the car. Most of these are custom or project cars. The car is gutted and the frame of the car and any usable or salvageable parts may be kept. From there, a custom engine, wheels, paint job and other custom work brings the car to life. These one of a kind cars can sell for big money, so it is worth sinking the money into one of these fixer up projects.

When companies buy junk cars, the most common thing that they do with them is use or sell the usable parts from the junk cars. As cars age, it can be harder to find parts for the car, especially if the manufacturer stops making them. Some companies will strip the parts of the car and refurbished them, selling them to auto repair shops. Other companies will open up pick and pull type lots with the cars, where consumers can walk through the lot, pull of the part they need and then buy it. Either way, this helps people get their hands on car parts that may need to repair their older cars.

The last thing that can be done with old junk cars is to recycle unusable parts of a junk car, or to recycle junk cars that are completely rusted. Cars and their parts are made from a variety of metal types, including aluminum and steel. These parts are heavy and can be sold to a recycler for a decent amount of company. Many of the parts are then melted down and turned into recycled metal products, giving them new life.

There are a great many reasons for buying a classic car or vintage car: love for the history of a specific brand, the experience of driving an old car, and the possible investment potential that many best vintage cars can offer.

If you plan to buy classic cars from a private seller, then you should be wary of the traps they might have waiting. Do not buy anything if the price seems too good to be true, and if something seems suspicious, contact experts you trust.

The 'short-term pull-forward' view was perhaps most vigorously articulated by automotive industry website Edmunds.com. In late October, Edmunds.com made a widely-reported forecast for the pace of sales in the last quarter of the year: According to Edmunds, light motor vehicle sales in November and December would be only about 10.5 million at an annual rate (the dashed blue line in the figure). Edmunds furthermore argued that, had the CARS program not existed, the pace of sales would have been higher, about 10.8 million, during those two months (the dashed red line in the figure). But according to the final data now in hand, the actual pace of sales in November and December was about 11.0 million units (the solid blue line in the figure substantially exceeds Edmunds' October 28 forecast). Last Thursday's announcement of a strong pace of sales in March also belies Edmunds' pessimistic trajectory. Indeed, over the seven months following the end of the CARS program in late August, the sales pace has averaged 10.7 million units at an annual rate, much higher than the 9.6 million pace in the three months that preceded the program, and considerably stronger than the forecasts made by private forecasters just before enactment of the CARS program.A final source of evidence on size and timing of the 'pull forward' effect comes directly from the people who purchased a vehicle under the program. According to a survey conducted by the Department of Transportation as part of the program, the average timeframe over which new car purchasers said they would have otherwise sold, traded in, or disposed of their old vehicle was 2.87 years - far longer than the timeframe of a few months that the program's critics hypothesized. A plausible interpretation of the available data, in fact, is that many of the CARS sales were to the kinds of thrifty people who can afford to buy a new car but normally wait until the old one is thoroughly worn out. Stimulating spending by such people is very nearly the best possible countercylical fiscal policy in an economy suffering from temporarily low aggregate demand.

The Carmax used-car chain is another option. Carmax will offer you a price that is good for seven days, giving you time to mull it over. As with other dealers, though, Carmax buys used cars to make money, not as a public service, so prices will probably be at the low end of wholesale.

In 1885, Carl Benz turned over a new leaf in the history of mobility and was granted a patent for the first automobile. The technique evolved with new makes and models like the Ford Tin Lizzie and the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL over the past 100 years. Some of the tedious models from the past turned into popular classic Car models over the years - European cars like the Volkswagen Beetle, Citroen 2CV or Jaguar XK and other "oldies" are good examples for this nostalgic value.

Over 2.500 manufacturers produced a countless number of different car models over the past 100 years. It is not that easy to tell what makes a certain car so special, even decades after the production shut down. Sometimes it depends on the car body as such, sometimes a famous driver increased the popularity of a certain car model. Good examples for cars that made an astonishing image change are the European Opel Kadett or classic muscle cars from the US. Those pragmatic but fuel consuming cars were widely disliked for years - today, there is a huge fan community for old and restored muscle cars and standard models from Europe and they are popular collectibles for every automobile fan.

The benefit of buying an outrunning model is the high potential of a valuable investment over a relatively short period of time - cars that are relatively keen today could become valuable classic cars in the future. Other classic cars for sale are already real treasures with a stable value that is permanently rising. Of course, a classic car is not something you park on the street for a longer period of time: Before you purchase your favorite model, you should make sure to have enough space for a long-time storage. If you happen to be lucky enough to find a functioning model, you should regularly maintain the sensitive technique to keep it that way. Spare parts are very expensive and difficult to obtain, so you should try to avoid unnecessary attrition.

Many brilliant designs and manufacturers already established before WWII and unfortunately faded into obscurity due to worldwide cultural changes. The famous Bentley Blower for example was not very popular in the 1920's and 1930's, but today it is a downright attraction in every private or public collection of classic cars. Owners of a Riley, Mercedes-Benz, Alvis or Rolls-Royce vintage cars can be sure to find numerous interested purchasers anytime. The classic cars are historical witnesses of certain time periods and make every trip on the street an outstanding event for the driver and for everyone on the street. 041b061a72
